The bauxite mines of Gánt

Explore the unique attractions of the Vértes Mountains!
If you would like to get to know more the attractions in the area of the competitions, we have several recommendations on offer. Among them are the bauxite mines near the village of Gánt, which were once Europe’s leading bauxite producers. By today, they have been closed down, and exploring their magnificent landscapes is open to the public. Bauxite is good for producing aluminium, which remains a very popular material today. You can find 3 different mines near Gánt.

Walking through the Martian landscape you can see what has been happening in the area over millions of years. Prepare to be fascinated by all the colours, layers and shapes revealed by the mining activity!
The mine’s wall is about 28 metres high, and the colours of the dolomite bedrock range from yellowish to purplish-red, due to the varied minerals. These mines are conveniently located near several training areas as well as the Middle Qualification race, making it easy to visit them.
